GSSS Program guidelines

We want every sailor to have a safe, fun, and unforgettable summer on the water.

Below are key operational, safety, and conduct guidelines.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up:

Drop-off: 9:00-9:30 a.m. (rigging starts immediately)

Pick-up: 4:30-5:00 p.m.

Supervision is not provided outside these hours. Notify instructors in advance if your sailor will be absent.

What to Bring / Essential gear:

Canadian Coast Guard–approved lifejacket/PFD, closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, bathing suit, towel, water bottle, sunglasses with floatable strap.

Clothing:

Sailors should come dressed for changing weather on the water. We recommend layered clothing that is quick‑dry (no cotton) and windproof, such as a lightweight long‑sleeve shirt, warm fleece or sweater, and a windbreaker or rain jacket. Each sailor must also bring a full change of dry clothes so they can get warm and comfortable if they get wet during the day.

Optional: Spray top/rain jacket or foul weather gear.

Lunch:

Bring a healthy lunch, snacks, and a reusable water-bottle.

BBQ days (Wednesdays) are available for purchase, please bring cash as close to exact change as possible. (BBQ with hamburgers-2.50, cheeseburgers-3.00, hot dogs-2.00)

Electronics:

No electronics during program hours (9:00–5:00). Devices are distracting, vulnerable to water damage, and the building is not secured throughout the day. Students can use an instructors phone in the event they need to contact their parents or guardians. If students choose to bring a device it must remain in their backpack for the entirety of the day.

Instructors reserve the right to hold phones until the end of the day for students found using their phone during program hours.

Regattas & Racing:

Sailors interested in competitive sailing can train in Opti, 420, and Laser boats. Teams compete in local and regional regattas with experienced coach support.
